Orphanage
What was once a Christian summer youth camp with a 150 person capacity, became a mandated refugee camp overnight. At the onset of the war, many displaced families and individuals found refuge here. By the third week of the war, 300 orphans and their caregivers fled Nicolaiv as it was being bombed. They spent days in a bus making their way to this unfamiliar location. Though conditions were overcrowded, the entire group was welcomed with love and care.
Igor, the youth camp director of nine years, eagerly and willingly set to work refocusing his energies to accommodate all of these desperate people. Radical Rescue helped connect Igor with additional resources and he was able to raise $300,000 to begin converting the small summer retreat into a large all-season residence for vulnerable people, most of them children. This major project is now providing indoor toilets and showers, laundry facilities, additional rooms and a large meeting hall for the camps displaced residents. Many other Ukrainian people in the region, particularly youth, find this a place of physical retreat and spiritual encouragement. The new building is very close to completion. Additional funds are needed to finish the last stages and continue providing food, heat, power and the basic needs of operation for these individuals unable to return to their homes and resume their lives.
